Ancient Egypt
This week we started our ancient Egypt unit. We discussed the process of mummification. One of those steps is putting organs in Canopic Jars,so we decided to make our own.
We started with homemade clay and molded the head of the Egyptian God onto the container lid.

Once they were formed, we painted the tops

We will finish the bottom portion and put on finishing touches next week

VOLCANOES
Our volcanoes finally erupted! We have been working hard to make volcanoes for our land theme. It has been a process, but it was definitely worth it when we created the lava eruption.

We started with a toilet paper roll and newspaper.
We used the newspaper to form a cone shape.
We then mixed up a salt dough for our outer crust.
We added a little color to the dough and started to mold it around our newspaper.
Once we were finished molding it into the shape we wanted we painted them.
Finally, we used baking soda, dish soap, paint, and vinegar to cause a lava eruption.

Weeding the Garden

We are starting to get some sprouts in our garden!  Today we spent some of our morning getting all of the weeds out.  It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it.

Summer Silhouettes with Mixed Media

We have been hard at work on our summer silhouettes.  The children have spent so much time and effort on their masterpieces.  I absolutely love the way that they turned out!

Summer Sandlot
Today our summer students welcomed an incoming kindergartener by putting together a game of baseball to make him feel comfortable. So cute to see them look out for each other.
