It was nice to see our students and parents last night for our Ice Cream Social. They got to meet and welcome our new teachers Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Abajian.

Everyone really enjoyed piling the toppings on their ice cream and getting to know all our new families.

This week we recreated the Ancient Egyptian collar and headdress. We used a paper plate and a lot of jewels to create the collar.

We finished off our Egyptian costumes by making a headdress

Ancient Egypt
We did string/foil art this week. We took a picture of Queen Nefertiti and outlined it with string.

We then laid foil over and rubbed the outline onto the foil.

We colored between the foil lines to create a beautiful Egyptian art piece.

Ancient Egypt
This week we started our ancient Egypt unit. We discussed the process of mummification. One of those steps is putting organs in Canopic Jars,so we decided to make our own.
We started with homemade clay and molded the head of the Egyptian God onto the container lid.

Once they were formed, we painted the tops

We will finish the bottom portion and put on finishing touches next week

VOLCANOES
Our volcanoes finally erupted! We have been working hard to make volcanoes for our land theme. It has been a process, but it was definitely worth it when we created the lava eruption.

We started with a toilet paper roll and newspaper.
We used the newspaper to form a cone shape.
We then mixed up a salt dough for our outer crust.
We added a little color to the dough and started to mold it around our newspaper.
Once we were finished molding it into the shape we wanted we painted them.
Finally, we used baking soda, dish soap, paint, and vinegar to cause a lava eruption.

Weeding the Garden

We are starting to get some sprouts in our garden!  Today we spent some of our morning getting all of the weeds out.  It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it.
